Her early successes in the performing arts, which we now know as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly have qualified her to be in the "child prodigy" category. For a child with Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents and family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen entered this loving refuge in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons, was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons is the second daughter from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out this wonderful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as a kid and was very proficient in them. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent to perform. She was the recipient of nearly all Feis prizes for her own country's theater and drama proved the fact that she was a natural performer. At the age of 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dream in classical theater and opera singing.
