Lee is the drummer for a long time for Motley Crue. He was also the founder of Methods of Mayhem, a hip-hop metal group. Lee has also pursued solo musical ventures. Lee is an avid PETA fan and an avid advocate for animal rights. In 2010 Lee sent a letter to Terry Prather, the president of SeaWorld protesting the treatment given to Tilikum the orca. Lee believed that the animal ought to be released and stated that SeaWorld will not allow this to happen, since Tilikum is their principal donor of sperm. Lee expressed his displeasure and was appalled by SeaWorld's sick and untrue methods to obtain Tilikum Sperm. Lee stated that he was hoping to prevent further tragedies of trainers being killed, as these tragedies had resulted from the whales' dislike of the confinement.
